9th FM & REM WinterSchool – sustainable urban development

The WinterSchool annually invites around 200 international students to the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol to work on a sustainable real estate project. This year innovative utilization concepts for a student dormitory were presented.

International, innovative, interdisciplinary – the Facility & Real Estate Management WinterSchool at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol is a very special course for the international students and has been given several awards.

Around 200 international students come to Kufstein every year for the FM & REM WinterSchool to work on a sustainable real estate project. This year, the 220 students developed innovative utilization concepts for a student dormitory, factored in a plan with two construction phases, and created a cost calculation. Twenty-four teams tried to use their presentation to win customers over to their project.

Various specialty areas and nationalities

The students come from various specialty areas: technicians, facility managers, architects, real estate managers, and also geographers worked on the project. Participants from the USA, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, and Austria traveled to the WinterSchool.

“We are especially proud of our long-term international partnerships. Because of our international partnerships, the Federal Ministry for Sustainability and Tourism and the Federal Ministry of Education, Science, and Research gave us the Sustainability Award along with the Inholland University of Applied Sciences, the Zuyd University of Applied Sciences, and Pratt Institute in New York,” explained the organizer of the FM & REM WinterSchool Sabrina Eitzinger, MA.

Excellent WinterSchool in 2021

For the tenth anniversary of the FM & REM WinterSchool, the Facility & Real Estate Management study programs at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol will be holding the WinterSchool again. The WinterSchool has already been given an award by Unesco Österreich as the project of the 2005-2014 decade, awarded with the 2014 Sustainability Award (1st place in the area of structural anchoring), and awarded with the 2018 Sustainability Award (3rd place in international cooperation).

The 10th FM & REM WinterSchool will take place from 02/25/2021-03/03/2021. Students from the entire world are welcome to gain experience and participate.
