FH Kufstein Tirol equips the Makers Lab for students
FH Kufstein Tirol had already offered its students the internal usage of laboratories within the context of their technical studies. Over the course of the relocation of the WING Lab (laboratory for industrial engineering) to the new UAS building, a new laboratory is being established in the old facilities: the Makers Lab.
Makers Lab – a space for hands-on
As of the winter semester 2019/20, all students are to be given the opportunity to use the machines in the new Makers Lab for practical projects, competitions or for testing business ideas under the precondition that students participate in initial training provided by laboratory employees. In addition to a 3D printer, circuit board printer (PCB printer) and soldering stations, a laser engraving machine is also provided. The Makers Lab will be a space in which various machines and devices for producing samples, prototypes and mini-series will be made available to private persons and start-ups in order to promote creative design.
Further usage opportunities for the Makers Lab
External entities have also expressed interest in laboratory usage, which will contribute to further networking the polytechnic with innovative businesses in the region. However, these cooperations only represent a possible second step. First, the Makers Lab must be designed so that it provides an appealing environment for developing and implementing ideas.
Laboratory Manager Markus Ehrlenbach is available for further information.
