Q+YOU – FH Kufstein Tirol´s students supporting the LGBTQIA+ community

12.01.2024 | Practical projects
In 2023, the city of Kufstein was once again the setting for the activities of FH Kufstein Tirol´s student business project Q+You. The project focuses on supporting the local LGBTQIA+ community in Kufstein and the surrounding area.

During the last two semesters, a group of students from the Sport, Culture & Event Management program of the University of Applied Science Kufstein Tirol have been continuing the Q+You business project aimed at supporting and empowering the LGBTQIA+ community in Kufstein and bringing attention to problems this community faces. Students of the FH Kufstein Tirol have provided the local community with 3 events during the Summer semester, namely Karaoke party, Pub Quiz and Pride Stammtisch. During the winter semester, they've helped organize the Perlen Pride, the largest in its history, by providing much-needed volunteers.

Getting the community together

During the Spring of 2023, the Q+You members organized 3 separate events for the LGBTQIA+ community in Kufstein and its surroundings. The first one of those was the Karaoke party, which kicked the whole project off after its winter pause. It was a huge success, filling Kufstein's Bau Bar with people showing support for the cause. The pub quiz was the second event of them all, hosting many teams challenging each other in questions related to LGBTQIA+ topics, celebrities, problems and others. The third event focused on bringing the community together to discuss the upcoming Perlen Pride.

Perlen Pride 2023

On the 7th of October, the city of Kufstein hosted the largest Perlen Pride parade in its history. Organized by Pride Tirol with the support of students from the Q+You project it brought over 800 visitors together to celebrate their selves. The streets of Kufstein turned into a lively and inclusive celebration of diversity and love, as the parade was more than just a march, it was almost a festival with many activities to do during the day. Inspiring speakers shared the stage to provide their insights and opinions on LGBTQIA+ topics in Austria. In addition to those, the stage was also used by performing drag queens coming from different cities around Kufstein. The continuous success of Perlen Pride is a testament to the hard work and dedication of Pride Tirol, whose members organise these events in their free time after their 9 to 5 jobs with no financial incentives. Q+You project provided much-needed volunteers to help with the on-set work and throughout this collaborative effort ensured that the resulting event was not only entertaining but also meaningful and impactful.
