Short Film Festival Kufstein Celebrates 5 Year Anniversary

02.11.2022 | General
The Short Film Festival Kufstein is celebrating its 5 year anniversary, and with it the lives of Ordinary Heroes. This year’s event is thus dedicated to everyday heroes and shares the stories of ordinary people who have achieved extraordinary things.

A Varied Cultural Program of Short Films

On November 24, 2022, eight selected short films will be screened at Kultur Quartier Kufstein, highlighting different perspectives on the festival’s motto. The festival evening will be rounded out by a varied supporting program.

Over the past few years, the Short Film Festival Kufstein has become a permanent fixture in the town’s calendar of events. After four successful editions, this year’s organizing committee was faced with the special task of getting the anniversary edition off the ground. Since its premiere in 2018, the event has been organized annually by a team of students from the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein in the form of a practice project. This year, the organizing committee is made up of seven students from the master’s program in Sports, Culture & Event Management and is particularly noteworthy for its international composition. Jointly, the team members bring to the table the unique perspectives of six different nationalities, and an even wider range of theoretical knowledge and practical experience. With the help of their different strengths and skills, their great commitment, and thanks to the support of their project’s supervisor Prof. (FH) Dr. Verena Teissl, the future culture and event managers have managed to put together a remarkable concept for the Short Film Festival Kufstein 2022.

Audience Will Be Inspired by the Stories of Everyday Heroes

The theme of this year’s festival definitely captures the spirit of our times. The organizers choose the motto of Ordinary Heroes to inspire their audience. “International tensions, wars, and everyday conflicts provoke a pessimistic view of humanity. We want to remind people that there is another reality next to this one. There is still a lot of good in this world,” said Zsófia Varga, director of the artistic program of the 2022 edition of the Short Film Festival Kufstein. This year, the program aims to highlight stories of people who do not make it into the news. People who are not famous or admired by millions, but people who nevertheless deserve to be recognized for their selfless, strong, and kind actions.

The call for short film nominations related to the festival theme was opened back in June. A total of more than 850 works by directors from 84 countries were submitted, in sum amounting to about 134 hours of filmed material. After careful examination and evaluation of all submissions, eight short films from seven different countries were selected for the festival evening. At the event, an expert jury consisting of film industry representatives Lisa Luginger, Tereza Kotyk, and Emanuel Bachnetzer, as well as the audience, will award prizes to the best entries. In addition to the screening of the short films, visitors can also look forward to a varied supporting program. Among other things, there will be exciting presentations by invited speakers, as well as an exhibition organized by the International School Kufstein which shows the perspective of the younger generation on the festival motto of everyday heroes. In order to do justice to the international outlook of the film festival, the entire evening’s program will be in English. The films themselves will be screened in their original version with English subtitles.

Organizing Team Looks Forward to a Diverse Audience

The aim of the festival team is to create an evening that inspires, informs, and encourages the audience to share their own stories. The organizers are looking forward to creating a space for encounters between the local population, local and international students of the university, school students, and filmmakers. Tickets for the event, which will take place on November 24, 2022, starting at 6:30 p.m. at Kultur Quartier Kufstein, are for sale during office hours at the Tourist Information Office in the KISS Shopping Mall as well as the Info Point of the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol, during evening opening hours at Bau!
